TRANSGENDERS- Children of lesser Gods

Ahem.. Its Friday, the 13th... i just woke up as usual around 9 in the morning. I just felt like writting something in the blog, this (Early morning;)) for 2 reasons, one- i havent logged into ma blog since long and second- wanted to share somethin sentational with u frnds. Yesterday, i went to see my family frnd, who gave birth to a new born baby. The baby was like a new pink rose bud in a venture of blooming.. Lovely.. I was excited to see the baby n so, spent my whole day thr at the hosp. Suddenly i saw 2 transgenders entering d room and was in lil shock cum fear to see them getting in.. It took few seconds to recover for me and got to know the situation tat its Mr Rahul(baby's father) who invited them to bless the baby. It was the time for doctors rounds, so the nurses asked us to sit in the visitors lobby and told tat thy will allow us only after d doctors visit. After ten minutes, Rahul Bhaiyya went out from the lobby to get some medicines and Grandma was almost asleep.. It was just Myself and the 2 Tgns, waiting at the lobby.. My heartbeats started increasing so fast and even i thought of moving from the place as i don want to sit thr alone wit them, but someting made myself to plant thr.. After a deep silence for abt 10 mins, one of the Trans, spoke to me smiling...
T: Hi Betti, wats ur name?
J: Janani..
T: R u scared seeing us??
J: Nope!! y shud i.. u r one among us.. ( actually i was so much, but just told them this , as it wud be the better ans)
T: Wat u doing?? studying??
J: yeah, an Eng graduate.. just finished my Coll..
T: Oh!! gud...
The next question from my side was obviously this one.. Have YOU both studied?? and the reply i got, really made my Mouth Open...
T: yeah i have... I have done MA, Mphil in Pshycology, now doing Phd........ N she Latha, is a writter.. she has published 2 books......
i never ever expected this from them....... She told me after this tat, thy both feel happy to a see young gal accepting them and talking to them normally..( Truly i was not)She then told, abt many bizzaric situations thy both have went thru their life while their education days, How bad people mock at them at each stage, How many sicked them and killed their hearts by words and actions, but still thy both had a determination in heart, tat thy shud continue their education and shud not fall into their community's regular pit workes like begging or sex working.. I was bumped up by their determination.. Though our parents pamper us to make us study , we sulk ourselves for it, but these people , though with lot of wounds by many n also from parents, thy continued too study...So nice of them.... But still thy come for blessing occasions like marriage, house warming, new born etc as thr part time fun and also cas thy need authorization from their community. As we finished speaking this, the nurses announced us abt the end of doctors visit and gave permission to see the baby again.. Thy both danced and blessed the kid and Me. I Actually don belive in this but felt happy to get blessings from a gud hearted deterministic aimful people of this society... So, i think we d new generations atleast shud accept theses children of lesser gods and make them one among us.. The stigma abt them shud be removed and shud save them from ruining their life by forceable cheap works.......... I know this posts gonna shock many as Transgenders always been a sentational topic for discussion, but still its a small exp i got in life with them and so wished to share it with u all...... TC.. ;)

There is a school of thought which says they are the third sex. People are frightened by them instinctively. That's a problem, but some transgenders make use of this fear deliberately, like in trains. One of my friends was touched (in a sexual manner) and called a husband by a transgender in a train because he took his time opening his wallet. Of course, they have no other go, but it definitely is an exploitation of people's fears.

"Thy both danced and blessed the kid and Me. I Actually don belive in this but felt happy to get blessings from a gud hearted deterministic aimful people of this society..." - Agree.

It is a superstition that a child should be blessed by transgenders, but why should a PhD and a published author of books dance and sing and bless it?

(Maybe they need money, but.. to me it seems they are forgoing their dignity by accepting to do that). Would a normal PhD fellow be magnanimous enough to consent to do that?

Acceptance in society must be given force both from transgenders as well as the rest of us.

(Ah. I guess I am becoming an arm-chair critic these days.)

Ahan, Good thing.
But still, these are the times one might thin how miserable god's creation is.
And by the way, Nice write up.

Wat u say is exactly true Sundar.. I admit it.. But, still, thr r few of them, who r harmless even in that grp.. Btw, d reason y these Transgenders in my note inspite of being Phds and wrtter, dance and bless cas, their community needs them to do it.. Only if thy ATLEAST do this, thy wud consider them as members and include them in their association to get Voter Id, ration cards.. etc..

Hmm. Ok.

I think one can only get rid of social stigma by increasing general awareness in the population. Awareness will eventually eradicate all stigma, regardless of however deep they are.

The best and most effective effort should come from the government and the mass media. The government already has many programmes of awareness against practices like child labour, dowry harassment, AIDS etc. They might also introduce programmes against the harrassmant of transgenders. Moreover, if a child is determined to be a transgender at birth, more often than not, doctors can change it to one of the two sexes before it is too late.

As regards mass media, DD already has awareness programmes. Other channels too must increase their programmes on transgenders. CNN IBN did a programme once recently. Vijay TV has a programme with Rose. That is a bold step. More such are needed.

And if film-makers take up a resolution to not portray them in any way that debases them, that might have a better impact on people and might lead to better acceptance of the third sex amongst the population.

The government, the media, and the movies are the most powerful sources that have an impression on the minds of people, and they must take it on themselves to create awareness on certain issues amongst people, and not always aim at making money.

hey hi,
just like tat got to visit ur blog n read this topic. good work.
i too hv an odd feeling in facing those kinda ppl. particularly in trains heading to north india we could find them more. its tough time travellin in train.
though some of the points sounds weird(ll d person who has done Phd b ready to dance n bless d child?-though ur reply sounds to be legitimate :) ), the point to b noted s we should accept them also as a part of society.
its god's creation, poor fellas wat can they do? , situation pushes them to bad things.

Anything different or unusual invokes an involuntary fear. Even though they may not harm us in anyway. Well, some of them are so, because of choice, while others are so because of fate. Because of this they are often abused and exploited ( for various reasons ) by the "normal" people.

So lets give them a chance. If they want to put up a respectable image in society, then maybe one should let them do so. Talking to them properly is a good start Janani..!
